a tour to both north and south islands in a campervan allowed us to explore the beauty of these islands at our leisure.
10 days in south island: dunedin, otago peninsular, the catlins, lake manapouri, lake te anau, eglington valley, milford sound, idyllic churches at garston, sports-mad queenstown, lake wakatipu, lake pukaki, rangitata river, whale watching at kaikoura, blenheim, mussels in havelock, verdant marlborough sounds and picton.
then 10 days in milder north island: cultural wellington, otaki beach, visiting relatives in marton, stinky rotorua, whakarewarewa, tikitere, artistic coromandel, kauri museum, and baylys and piha beaches.
As usual the weather wasn't as anticipated, but we certainly crammed enough into 3 weeks

campervanning was definitely a hit as it allowed us to camp beside lakes and stunning scenery, and the organised campsites had excellent facilities.
most memorable were the colours of the glacial lakes of south island, the lack of people, the
geography and nature.
we spooted over 40 native nz birds during our trip, not that we're becoming twitchers...
north island was far more populated, and gladly wellington wasn't overcome with its popularity from LOTR.
